Building for the Future
Why QuietAlbum keeps your children's moments out of the feed, and lets you take them with you.
cc83363 1 min readClassrooms today are filled with smartphones. Always ready to capture the moment. The issue is that the moments they capture are not only the good ones, but the bad ones as well. When I was in high school, most kids had decent phones, but the cameras in them were still quite bad.
Social media and chat apps both made spreading images and videos easy. Capturing a moment and sending it around the globe is now a five-second affair. The consequence of a kid saying the wrong thing may not be apparent for 20 years. Perhaps the kid has grown up and aspires to be a politician. Should a video of a child's words affect their chances later in life, when research suggests the brain keeps developing into the mid-twenties?
We can't control what is filmed in a classroom, but we can control what we post and where. I do not post pictures of my child on social media, nor does my wife. The entire family knows that we do not want this, and they respect our wishes. We do, however, still wish to share pictures with the extended family. All the more now that we live abroad. This is why I built QuietAlbum.
You pick what is shared and with whom it is shared. QuietAlbum facilitates the service and promises to respect your content. No AI is trained on your photos. Nobody analyses them. Your data remains yours. You can delete your account and data in the app at any time. You can also export the data whenever you wish and take it with you if you choose to leave us.
This is what "Building for the future" means to us. Building for a world where kids can be kids.
