An Adventure Begins

I started digging into photo app alternatives with a focus on privacy and quality. I believe there is a gap there and I intend to fill it.

Two years ago, in 2024, I officially became a father. I say officially since I already felt as though I was one since quite some time back. My wife and I had decided that our daughter was not to be plastered on social media. What we did not realise was how to handle the request for images from family and friends. We ended up on a quite well known app where my wife's sister already had an album for their first-born. I had my reservations but kept them to myself.

Fast forward to the end of June 2026 and I am just done with an assignment. Living very remotely I did not spend the time looking for a new job. The plan was to do so in the months before moving home again. Instead I put the time into building things. The first things were apps for my Garmin smartwatch. I tried moving things from the phone to the watch so I would doom scroll less. While working with these things I had the idea for this project.

This project is a combination of two things I really enjoy, privacy and photography. Looking through the images of our daughter most images are of her. In some of them there are others in the background. The ratio between my wife and me in the background? She's probably there 5 times for every time I am. I am the one taking the pictures.

When it comes to privacy I do not want my daughter's face to be used by some AI company dredging the internet for anything and everything. I want strong protections relating to privacy. Most of the time I am quite happy living in the EU.
